Wearing and making the most of what we have is one of the best things we can do for a sustainable wardrobe. But still, ending up wearing a few things over and over and not feeling like we’ve got enough clothes (even though we’ve got an over-crowded wardrobe), is probably more common than not. I’m definitely one of these people so as a September slow fashion challenge I’m wearing my full wardrobe, not allowing myself to wear the same thing twice, to force myself to be more creative and to appreciate what I have.
I’m now half-way through the challenge and it’s going fairly well. The weather has been rather nice (for Sweden and September) so I’ve been able to wear summery clothes too, rather than just thick trousers and woolly jumpers, which has helped with keeping it varied. And because I do have a lot of clothes, I’ve not quite reached a point where I’m running out of options, even though I’ve been keen to wear something I’ve already worn during the challenge.
I’m hoping I won’t end up with only boring, basic, black clothes at the end of the month, but I’ve so far been wearing quite a lot of colourful and light clothes because of the nice weather as I haven’t had to worry about clothes getting ruined in bad weather (which I find is an issue in the winter). I particularly enjoyed the colour combination of red trousers, purple socks and my brown leather brogues. And I’ve obviously been wearing blue and white stripes. On the weekends I’ve spent a lot of time outside in nature so have opted for joggers and comfy clothing, like one of my oldest pieces of clothing (in pic above), from when my mum played football in the 80s.
…
What I haven’t quite been so good at so far is to actually plan the outfits. I’m notoriously bad with this and it’s something I really want to get better at, to avoid the stress in the morning, but also to encourage more creativity. And also to be able to plan better – iron what needs to be ironed, the night before. So for the second half of the challenge I’m going to try to get better at this, and I’m hoping it will help me when I’m starting to feel like I’m running out of ideas towards the end of the month!
